Socio-economic well-being of HRDs

This strategic priority focuses on strengthening the socio-economic resilience of human rights defenders (HRDs), helping them live with dignity and become self-sufficient by ensuring access to essential resources.

The program also includes a Training of Trainers (TOT) initiative to equip Secretariat staff with the skills to meet HRDs’ training needs. To ensure effective collaboration, the Defenders Coalition trains service providers on how to recognize and address the specific needs of HRDs.

The Defenders Coalition enhances the capacities of HRDs on entrepreneurship and economic self-reliance. Besides organizing linkages between HRDs and economic empowerment institutions for mentorship, access to capital the Defenders Coalition further organizes HRD marketplaces (physical and virtual) to showcase HRD products and services.

The Defenders Coalition approaches the well-being of HRDs through several pathways including facilitating access to mental wellness services.
